Our Adventure – Week 1
It’s officially been one week since we’ve left home and started our little journey on the other side of the world. Kyle and I have been itching to travel for a really long time, so we thought we might as well hit up all the places we want to see at once. Since we’re travelling so far it just makes more sense to do it all in one shot.
We’ve started off our journey in Thailand, first stop: Chiang Mai. I have to say that it has surpassed my expectations. The people, the food, the weather, the scenery, everything! I can see why they call Chiang Mai the Rose of the North, it’s beautiful and definitely worth a visit if you’re ever in Thailand.
I thought I would just give you all a quick little recap of what we’ve been up to this week.
We stayed at BED Hotel Chiang Mai Gate the first few days that we were here. I booked it because it was close to the airport, and we wanted a stress free first few days before heading off to AirBnBs. The hotel was honestly amazing. It was smaller, but really modern and even had a pool. We loved the fact that there was water bottles available at all times for guests, and a complimentary breakfast. That’s where we got our first taste of Thai food, and we were hooked.
Night Bazaar Chiang Mai
The Night Bazaar is one of the biggest markets in Chiang Mai, so we decided to go one evening. We had some authentic pad thai cooked up right in front of us for dinner, and then enjoyed a local beer at a little outdoor bar. It’s so cool just to walk through the markets and experience the buzz of the nightlife. We also decided to get one of those fish pedicures which was sooooooo ticklish haha.
Café’s and Restaurants
We’re planning on doing a full guide for all the places we’ve eaten and what we would personally recommend if you ever visit, so stay tuned for that. We are loving trying out all the unique places and amazing food. There are honestly so many great options it’s been really hard to choose where to go.
This one little café Baristotel has the best salted caramel cheesecake we’ve ever had, like EVER. I’m not even kidding we went back 2 days in a row just for more.
Another spot we stopped at was literally made for Instagram. Picadilly’s had the cutest ice cream cones, and seriously photo worthy walls. The décor inside was plastered in Instagram photos of their ice cream and everyone out front was snapping photos, so we fit right in – haha!
We’ve visited a few temples so far, and got blessed by a monk. One of the temples we went to – Wat Suan Dok – was breathtaking. They even provide an opportunity to chat with monks. We decided to go, and it was a really cool experience. The monks are doing their schooling there and the chats help them better their English. We talked about Buddhism, his journey to becoming a monk, views on life, weather, Canada, and his home country Nepal.
Our first week has definitely not disappointed. Lot’s more to come 🙂
