10 Healthy Lifestyle Habits to Adopt

The new year is here and there is no better time to start fresh! I’m sharing 10 healthy habits that are worth adopting for the new year, so you can live a healthier happier life.

1. Meal Prep once a week

If one of your goals is to be healthier this year then meal prepping is a must! This is seriously such a life saver and really helps keep you on track. We like to meal prep once per week ( 2 meals ), that way we have some option and there’s always something to turn to in a pinch.

2. Start shopping with lists ( everywhere )

Start doing all of your shopping with a list. This includes your groceries, clothing, home items… everything! When you shop with a list then you know exactly what you need and it really helps to keep you from buying excess things that you don’t need and spending more money than you should.

3. Write down a mini to-do list every morning

Start writing out a to-do list every single morning, but not your average to-do list with everything under the sun on it. Pick out 3 things that you need to get accomplished within the day and stick to it. I personally find if I write more than 3 things I won’t always accomplish everything and it can be discouraging. So pick your top 3 to-do’s and everything else you get done is even better!

4. Unplug before bed and read

Stop checking your phone the minute you step foot into your bedroom. Turn all your electronics off, and let your mind be at peace before bed. Read a book instead to help sooth your mind, and let you fall asleep easier.

5. Practice gratitude more

Be grateful for what you have in your life and create a deeper appreciation it. It can be as simple as listing out 3 things you’re grateful for every single day.

6. Create a Steady Sleeping Routine

Start going to bed around the same time every single night and start getting up around the same time every day. Your body will start getting used to it and it helps you stay on track with a steady routine.

7. Brain dump before bed

If you have an extremely busy mind like I do then this one is for you. Get yourself a little notebook or a journal and start doing a brain dump every night before bed. Basically all you need to do is just put your pen to the paper and just write. Write down every single thing that’s on your mind and causing those wheels in your brain to keep on spinning. Don’t let the pen off the paper, and when you have to pause and think you’ve probably gotten all the important things out. This really does help clear your mind, put you at ease, and let you fall asleep quicker.

Also an added bonus: you can review what you wrote the next morning and it can help you out with your to-do list!

8. Make a date night once a month

Make time for relationships in your life. Try to make a point once a month or so to have a date night with your significant other, your mom, a friend, a family member ( whoever! ) and get out and do something! Put your phones away and focus on having a good time with someone who is important to you.

9. Try to change your mindset

This is not an easy task and definitely something that takes work. You cannot control situations that happen around you but you can always control how you react to situations, and your own emotions. An example I like to give is that if someone cuts you off while driving … they don’t give a crap that they just cut you off but if you choose to get mad then it’s affecting your mood, and your happiness. Change your mindset, let things that are out of your control go and focus your energy elsewhere!

10. Be patient and smile more

Last but not least is to be patient and smile more! Everyone has stuff going on in their lives and we’re all just trying to get by. The world doesn’t revolve around you so try to have a little bit of patience, embrace life, and smile a little more!
