5 Tips for a Better Morning Routine
If you’re anything like me then you hate mornings, and wish your snooze button paused actual time so that you could get up when you’re ready. Over the years I’ve started doing a few things that make my mornings a little bit healthier and run more smoothly. So here are my 5 tips for a better morning routine.
1. Plan the Night Before
This is a major time saver in the morning – a little planning goes a long way. Having a couple of things prepared the night before means you don’t even have to think about it in the morning.
Make Your Lunch
I always make my lunch while I’m making dinner for myself. It’s so easy to just grab a Tupperware container and kill two birds with one stone. Make a little bit extra for dinner and you’ll save yourself time or money the next day.
Plan Out Your Outfit
In the mornings I find picking out an outfit can be a challenge. I started picking out my entire outfit the night before, and then I’ll just leave it on my dresser so it makes changing in the morning painless. I’ll pick out everything right down to accessories so I don’t even have to think about it the next day.
2. Add Snooze Time
Where are all my snoozers at!? It is literally impossible for me to get up right away when my alarm goes off and I know that this will probably never change. I’m not trying to kid anyone so I’ve just allotted time for that in my morning routine now. If I need to be out of bed by 7:30 then I will set my alarm for 7:10 so I know that I can have my two snooze pushes in there. I still get my snoozing time, and I also don’t have to rush around in the morning to make sure I leave on time.
3. Don’t Look at Your Phone Right Away
This is something I’ve just recently started doing. I do use my phone as an alarm clock so it’s right beside the bed, but I don’t check my emails right away. If that’s the first thing that you’re doing in the morning then you’re just setting yourself up for stress and anxiety. Wait until your body is fully awake to plunge into work and take the time to first thing in the morning to focus on you.
4. Drink a Glass of Water as Soon as You Get Up
Your body hasn’t had any water all night so it’s so important to rehydrate yourself in the morning. Even if you don’t feel thirsty you should drink a full glass of water to get you going for the day.
5. Set Mini Timelines
This is something I do every single morning to help keep myself on track. Before I start doing something I’ll look at the time and then allot myself a timeframe for getting that task done. For instance, if I’m cooking breakfast I’ll give my self 10 minutes until I want to be sitting down and eating. Then once I’m eating I’ll give myself 15 minutes to eat and enjoy my coffee. If I know what time I should be finished each task then I sort of hold myself accountable. I finish each task on time so I can be out the door on time.
