Tips to Control Cravings
We have all experienced the feeling of desperately wanting or needing a specific food, even after just eating a full meal. Most of the time when we are dieting or just following our normal meal plan, we will start to get these cravings, and sometimes it may feel like nothing will satisfy it. You really don’t want to indulge too much in unhealthy foods so here are some tips to control cravings:
1. More Water
One of the most important tips you will read in this post is to simply drink more water. Sometimes thirst is confused with hunger and we react with eating more food rather than quenching that thirst. If you find yourself with a hungry stomach, try drinking a large glass of water. This is a healthy alternative to eating random foods and consuming calories that you don’t necessarily need.
2. Meal Plan
A good way to control your cravings is to plan out your meals. I’m not saying you have to meticulously measure out specific amounts of food for each meal, but just plan ahead. When you’ve already made food that is quick and easy to heat up or prepare, it makes it easier to avoid caving and eating junk food when your cravings start to kick in.
This tip is somewhat adding to the previous one, but try not to let yourself get extremely hungry. If you have snacks and meals throughout your day, it can help to avoid getting cravings at all. If you tend to not plan to pack a lunch, or wait too long to eat, try to have a more scheduled meal plan or eat a couple healthier snacks in between meals in order to avoid cravings.
3. Shop Full
Lastly, don’t go grocery shopping on an empty stomach. This is a huge mistake that I still fall victim to from time to time. If you go to the grocery store hungry you are way more likely to buy unhealthy food that you wouldn’t normally buy. If you feel hungry, try to have a light snack before going to the store, and hopefully this helps to keep your cravings under control while you’re shopping.
Caving to your cravings isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it can throw you off of all the hard work you’ve put into your diet and meal plan. By keeping a more scheduled meal plan, eating consistently, and drinking lots of water, you should be able to solve your cravings with ease.
